YOUNGSVILLE --Michael Demetrius Cannady, 58, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 in Holly Springs. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, at Union Grove Baptist Church, Youngsville, with the Rev. Samuel T. Tunstall officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

He was born in Durham to Hattie Perry Cannady and the late George Cannady Jr. He was educated in the Franklin County Public School System and earned MVP and All-Conference honors in basketball three years in a row. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he served in various capacities. He was a retired truck driver.

Surviving: wife, Dannette S. Cannady of the home; son, Jermaine Cannady (fiancé Tia Jones) of Greensboro; daughter, Shakima Garrison (Patrick) of Raleigh; mother, Hattie P. Cannady of Youngsville; brother, Darryl Cannady (Rita) of Charlotte; and one granddaughter.
