LOUISBURG - Sybil Barker Shuping, 89, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Rex Nursing Care Center in Apex. For the past two years, she has been a resident of Magnolia Glen in Raleigh. Born March 16, 1917 to John Sydney Barker and Annie Honeycutt Barker of Fuquay-Varina. She attended public schools in Harnett County and graduated from Lafayette High School. She then attended Campbell College and East Carolina Teacher’s College. On February 14, 1943 she married Lonnie Ross Shuping, who was serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge, they made their home in Raleigh, before moving to Louisburg in 1953. Sybil was a homemaker, and a passionate gardener who shared her love of nature’s beauty with everyone. Her friends and family knew her as a generous soul, always acknowledging special events in their lives. She and her husband were dedicated members of Louisburg United Methodist Church for fifty years and she was a member of the Louisburg United Methodist Women.

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lonnie Ross Shuping and her firstborn son, John Ross Shuping. Surviving are her sons; Paul Alexander Shuping and wife Linda of Madison, Virginia; Donald Barker Shuping and wife Kathy of Pittsboro; daughter-in-law, Margaret Hart Shuping of Greenville, N.C.; grandsons, John Ross Shuping Jr. of San Francisco, California and William Grady Shuping of Pittsboro; three step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to Louisburg United Methodist Church P.O. Box 667 Louisburg, N.
