WILLIAM ROBERT MCCRARY
March 11, 1937 - June 10, 2016

Bill McCrary, 79, born in Memphis, TN and a resident of Franklinton, NC, died Friday, June 10, 2016 while doing what he loved best, second only to spending time with his family--playing golf with his very best friend, Jim Stimpson.

Bill worked in the truck leasing business for many years until he retired from Ryder over fifteen years ago. He and Vann moved to Navarre, FL where he enjoyed year-round golfing and finally settled in Franklinton, where they enjoyed year-round time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in life to him. It is his legacy.

In his "retirement", Bill worked for ten years as a Walmart greeter--his dream job, where he could smile and greet people with his positive spirit and lift them up no matter what state they were in when they walked through the door. He will be sorely missed at "Wally World".

God and church were central to Bill's existence. He faithfully served at Franklinton United Methodist as lay leader, adult Sunday school class participant and teacher, Board of Trustees member, soup kitchen volunteer, and other contributions too many to name. He made similar contributions at every church he and Vann belonged to in their many moves over the years. You could say Bill ministered over the years, in one way or another, to most everyone that crossed his path.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Murphy and Jeanette Moore McCrary of Memphis, TN and his beloved oldest daughter, Jenny of Henderson. He is survived and will be so sorely missed by the love of his life, his wife for over 60 years, Vann Hauser McCrary; siblings Mary Sue Hindman of Tampa, FL, Patsy McMahon of Batesville, MS, and Murphy McCrary of Memphis, TN; daughters, Jean Scrivani and Katie Keith of Raleigh, NC and Mary Jackson of Bridgewater, NJ; grandchildren Anthony Daniels, Jason Pegram, Brandon Daniels, Matt Shuster, Kayla Jackson, and Will Jackson; step-grandchildren Addison Scrivani, Alexis Scrivani, and Ruthie Keith; great-grandchildren Cole Pegram and Savannah Pegram; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

A memorial service was held at Franklinton United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00am, followed by a reception and luncheon in the church's Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be made to the church in memory of Bill McCrary, 109 N. Main Street, Franklinton, NC, 27525, with checks payable to FUMC and noted "In memory of Bill McCrary".
