CENTERVILLE - Johnny Briley Newell Sr., 69, of Centerville, died Friday, August 5, 2016, at his home. He was born on February 24, 1947 to the late Hazel Briley and Norman Newell. Johnny was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Newell; a son, Johnny Newell Jr.; and a brother, Fletcher Newell.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Betty Radford Newell; his son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Emily Newell; his granddaughters, Kassidie and Emma Newell; and his brother, Norman Newell Jr.

A memorial service was held Monday at 1:00 pm at Centerville Baptist Church with the Reverends Josh Parrott and Keith Campbell officiating. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Johnny's remains were laid to rest beside Peggy and Johnny Jr. at 4 p.m. at Zion UMC in Oine, NC.

Johnny loved people and never met a stranger. He was a truck driver by profession but was a true cowboy. Johnny was an excellent dancer; he taught Betty to two-step in their kitchen.
