LORENE M. BARTHOLOMEW

LORENE M. BARTHOLOMEW

LOUISBURG - Lorene Marks Bartholomew, 83, of the Sandy Creek community, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2016. She was born in Franklin County on June 14, 1933, to the late James Paul, Sr., and Nellie Hicks Marks, and was the widow of James Howell Bartholomew.

Lorene was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Helen Marks, Peggy Ayscue and Shirley Hunt. Survivors include her children, Gloria Bartholomew Horton and her husband, Dr. James E. Horton of Edenton, and James Morton "Morty" and his wife, Barbara Bartholomew, of Castalia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric and Natalie Horton, Jessica and Clay Thompson, Carrie B. and Rayndall Bass, and Noah Bartholomew and his girlfriend, Natalie Cone; great-granddaughters, Ella Grace and Anna Mae Horton. Other survivors include her sisters, Alma Gupton, Paula Whitaker, and Lalage (Dennis) Cash; her brother, James Paul, Jr. (Ellen) Marks; and sister-in-law, Barbara Bartholomew (Larry) Pleasants; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Jeanette Foster.

Lorene was a 1949 graduate of Mills High School in Louisburg. She and James were married on October 26, 1951. She was a faithful member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church for more than fifty years, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Lorene was happiest when she was taking care of her family and spending time with them. We take comfort in the assurance that she was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and that she is now at home in Heaven with Him and many of her loved ones.

The family received friends on Monday, August 22, 2016, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC 27549, and at the home of Morty and Barbara Bartholomew at all other times. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with Doug Moore officiating. Entombment followed at Lancaster Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, consider contributions to Sandy Creek Baptist Church for the Children's Fund or the Homebound Ministry. Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
