FRANKLINTON- Herbert "Lee" Cahoon Jr., 72, formerly of Franklinton, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saurday at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel, 504 East Mason St., Franklinton, with the Rev. David Averette offciating.

He was born in Tyrrell County to the late Mary Payne and Herbert Lee Cahoon Sr. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Shelby Sapp, Delton Cahoon, and William Payne.

Surviving: wife, Kristine; son, Herbert L. III (Leslie) Cahoon of Franklinton; his daughters, Shelby C. (Vernon) Burton of Louisburg and Shay C. (Mickel) Gibbs of Englehard; brothers, Harry Cahoon and Alfred Gibbs; a sister, Mary Ellen Gibbs; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many, many nieces and nephews.

He served his country for 25 years before retiring from the U.S. Army. He then worked at the NCDOT where he was a heavy equipment operator for 21 years.
