WILLIAM R. "RICKY" DEMENT

LOUISBURG - William Richard DeMent (Ricky), 63, died suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 from complications following surgery.

Ricky was born July 18, 1953 and was raised in Youngsville, North Carolina. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, he was one of the original founding members of the EMS Team for the County. He also served as a volunteer fireman before changing careers to be a part of the local entertainment industry, as a nightclub owner and music promoter. This line of work led him to open a DJ and event videography business. He would, in fact, video every moment of life that his friends and family would allow, from son Devan's ball games to wife Terri's dance recitals. His most recent career was as the beloved good will ambassador of daughter Jamie's Coon Rock Farm.

Ricky brought to those around him a contagious smile and a propensity for laughter, as well as a penchant for storytelling and a love of a long conversation. He will be remembered for these traits as well as his love of good music and dancing.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth DeMent of Youngsville; wife, Terri DeMent of Louisburg; son, Devan DeMent, also of Louisburg; daughter, Jamie DeMent (and Richard Holcomb) of Hillsborough; grandchildren, David Holcomb of Chapel Hill, Josh Holcomb (and Sara Lindsey) of Raleigh, Matthew Holcomb of Raleigh, and Rachel Holcomb of Chapel Hill; and brothers, Tommy DeMent of Youngsville and Wallace DeMent (and Becky) of Knightdale.

He is preceded in death by his father, Mack DeMent; grandparents, Bessie and Maurice Woodlief and Irma and William DeMent, as well a son from a previous marriage with Cheryl DeMent, Jason Richard DeMent.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 25, 2016 at 1:00pm at Youngsville Baptist Church. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Contributions in memory of Ricky may be made to Franklin County EMS.
