S. ALLEN DEHART


LOUISBURG - Sheppard Allen DeHart, 90, of Louisburg, N.C. and formerly of Patrick County, Va., died Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, Va. Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He was born in Patrick County, Va., on Sept. 3, 1926 to the late Samuel DeHart and Losia Weaver DeHart Elgin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Elgin, Moir DeHart, and Willie Lee Elgin.

Mr. DeHart was the founder and owner of DeHart Botanical Gardens in Franklin County, N.C., and Patrick County, Va. He was a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He became a preacher in his teens and was a retired professor at Louisburg College.

Surviving are his sister, Virginia Ann Martin of Woolwine, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
