LOUISBURG - Harold Bruce Green, age 92, of Louisburg, N.C., passed on June 19, 2017 at Louisburg Nursing Center. He was the son of the late Bruce and Mable Branch Green of Louisburg.

His grandmother, the late Mrs. Mary (Pidgie) Green Gill, reared him because both of his parents died when Harold was just a baby.

Mr. Green was a World War II veteran who was trained as a radio repairman at the RCA Institute in New York City. He was also a member of American Legion Post 228.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended N.C. A&T College in Greensboro, where he excelled in baseball and was later inducted into N.C. A&T's Baseball Hall of Fame.

He had a very distinguished career as an educator where he began his teaching career at Franklin County Training School, later renamed Riverside High School. He also taught at Louisburg High School and later became principal of Louisburg Elementary School. In addition to teaching, he was also a dedicated coach of football, baseball and basketball at each school he taught.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christine Byers Green of the home; cousins, Mrs. Florine Green Edgerton, Dr. Virginia Green Edwards, San Rafael, CA, and Mary H. Gill of New Jersey; a "special niece," Mary Green Johnson of Durham; Alyce Green, Anthony Green, Darlene Small and Patricia Gill, all of Louisburg; sisters-in-law, Hazel Wiley of Greensboro, Gloria Tugman (William) of Salisbury, Virginia Hickman (Rudolph) of Silver Spring, MD, Mamie Hairston, Virginia Beach, VA; brother-in-law, Eddie Byers of Salisbury; and godchildren, Vincent Battle of Raleigh, Wanda Grimsbly of Florida; Greg and Jaleesa Small-Baskerville of Louisburg; and many other cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on June 23 at 2 p.m. at South Main Street Missionary Baptist Church, South Main Street, Louisburg. Open visitation will be at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg on Thursday, June 22, from 3 to 7 p.m.
