JAMES "PETE" BLACKLEY


FRANKLINTON--James E. "Pete" Blackley, 86, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Rex Hospital. A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, 1626 Gordon Moore Road, Franklinton, with the Rev. Carl Hunter officiating.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1930 to the late Jessie Hillman and Nellie Gray Preddy Blackley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Blackley Hedgepeth, and his brother, Valen Blackley.

Known by many as "Peter Rabbitt," he worked at Burlington Industries and at Wake Finishing Plant before his retirement.

Surviving: nephew, Bundy Hedgepeth of Kittrell; nieces, Libby Blackley of Durham, Deme Blackley Garvin of Columbia, S.C.; and many cousins.
