LOUISBURG - James Sterling Hunt, 81, of Louisburg, died Thursday morning after an extended illness. James was a son of the late Alson G. and Louisa A. Hunt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Horton Hunt; infant daughter, Gwendolyn Hunt; sisters, Annie Mae Smith and Mary Lawson; brothers, Ruffin Hunt and Charlie Hunt.

James was a Ford car salesman for over 30 years at Griffin Motor Company in Louisburg and a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He served as a Franklin County Commissioner for 8 years. In this capacity, he was especially proud of being a part of bringing Novozymes to Franklin County and working to establish the Franklin County Airport (now Triangle North Executive Airport). He served on the Bunn Fire Department Board of Directors and on the Franklin Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. He loved God, family, and farming.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 3, 2017, at 4:00 pm at Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. James Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

James is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Gene Darnell of Louisburg; Beverly and Lynn Davis of Holly Springs; Jamie and John Jones of Louisburg; grandchildren, Andy Darnell and wife, Lauryn; Josh Darnell and wife, Alicia; Amanda Darnell; Christopher Davis; and Brandon Stroud; great-grandchildren, Collin Caskey, Kaitlyn Darnell, Kierstyn Darnell, and Blake Darnell.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Universal Healthcare/North Raleigh and Transitions Life Care Hospice for the care and attention given to James.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church, 929 M.C. Wilder Rd., Louisburg, NC 27549.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 4:00-5:30 pm at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, Louisburg, and other times at the home of Jamie and John Jones, 101 Sam Horton Road, Louisburg. www.stricklandfuneralhome.net
