WILLIE C. HARDEGREE


WAKE FOREST - Mrs. Willie Carter Hardegree, 77, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at the home of her daughter, Kimberly H. Lewis in Wake Forest. A memorial service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 18, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest.

She was born in Bunn to James Willie Carter and Ruth Catlette Carter, both of whom predeceased her. She was a 1948 graduate of Bunn High School as valedictorian. She was awarded a scholarship to Louisburg College and after completion of two years there, she transferred to Greensboro College. She worked for the N.C. Department of Revenue and later for Lawyers Title Insurance Company. She was appointed secretary-treasurer of Lawyers Title of N.C. and vice president of Eastern Standard Corp. She retired in 1987.

Surviving: her daughter, Kimberly Hardegree Lewis and companion, Larry Uzzell; sisters, Myrtle Carter of Bunn and Mildred Carter Parker, both of Raleigh; brothers, B. Glenn Carter (Harlow) of Bunn, Billy Carter (Betty) of Chewelah, W. Va.; and two grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas E. Carter and Earl Carter of Bunn.
