JACK W. RICHARDS


ZEBULON - Jack William Richards, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Duke-Raleigh Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Strickland Funeral Home chapel, Wendell. Burial followed in the Mitchell family cemetery, Zebulon.

A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late John Eacho and Lucy Mitchell Richards. During WWII, Mr. Richards served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Dobbin and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was a Franklin County farmer and a bank courier for NCNB before retiring in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Wright Richards; half brother, Charles Warwick; and half sister, Louise Bryan.

Surviving: sons, William “Bill” Richards (Marie), Tracy N. Richards (Jewel), all of Louisburg; daughter, Lyn Richards Massey (Ray) of Zebulon; half brothers, George F. Warwick (Martha) of Wilmington, Bill E. Warwick of Lumberton; half sisters, Anne Van Nordheim (Ed) of Wilmington and Nancy Shipley (Don) of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Flowers or memorials to Shriners Children’s Hospitals are welcomed.
