JAMES E. “ED” HOLLINGSWORTH SR.


ZEBULON - James Edward “Ed” Hollingsworth Sr., 88, died Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2007. Funeral services will be conducted today (Saturday, Jan. 5), at the Wakefield Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Zebulon Cemetery with military honors.

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer prior to and during World War II. Hollingsworth retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 34 years service as a civil service employee. He also worked 10 years after retirement with Purolator as a courier service. He was born in Wayne County, son of the late Adrian Lawrence Hollingsworth and Sally Howell Hollingsworth, and was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Lawrence Hollingsworth.

Surviving: his wife, Priscilla Mitchell Hollingsworth; their children, James E. Hollingsworth Jr. (Sandra V.) of West Jefferson, Barbara H. Elliott (Tommy) and Debra Meeks (Phil), all of Chesaspeake, Va.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Wakefield Central Baptist Church prior to the service.
