LOUISBURG - George Washington Hathaway, 69, died Sunday morning, Jan. 11, 2009 at his residence. A memorial service honoring his life was conducted Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest, with the Rev. Tammy Carter officiating.

He was born in Edgecombe County, son of the late Fannie Mavis Hathaway and Richard Lee Hathaway.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Hathaway; sister, Sarah Barbee; brothers, Robert Lee and Richard Lee Hathaway.

Surviving: wife, Margaret Carter Hathaway; daughter, Joyce Ann Martin of Louisburg; sons, Robert Melvin Hathaway (Donna) of Mebane, Lloyd Allen Hathaway of Louisburg; sisters, Helen Etheridge and Darlene Harris, both of Tarboro, Elda Ray Alford of Elm City; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
