LOUISBURG - E. Douglas Oakes, 72, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Duke Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, from Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Henry Stamper officiating.

Surviving: wife, JoAnne House Oakes; son, Robert D. Oakes (Geraldine) of Youngsville; sister, Nell O. Lee of Louisburg; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home, 507 Baldy Murphy Road, Louisburg, at all times.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the White Level Baptist Church Building Fund, 2400 White Level Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Oakes’ service to his country.
