TARBORO -- Bunn finished in fourth place overall at the Tarboro Easter Classic Baseball Tournament following a 7-0 consolation-game loss to Winslow Township (New Jersey) last Thursday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Jefferson Forest, the team that defeated BHS in the semifinals, won the championship with a narrow victory against host Tarboro.

WINSTON-SALEM -- The Winston-Salem Dash recovered from losing an early three-run lead to beat the Carolina Mudcats 6-5 in front of 3,682 on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark in a Class A Carolina League baseball event.
The win pulls Winston-Salem (5-4) into a first place tie with Carolina (5-4) in the Carolina League’s Southern Division.

Local anglers shine at R. Rapids event
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- On a cool, windy day on Roanoke Rapids Lake on April 6, area anglers were bringing big bags of  bass to the scales again.
Twenty-five anglers from the NC B.A.S.S.  Federation Nation brought in over 303 pounds of bass.
When all of the scales had settled, Castalia’s Cory Leonard and Roanoke Rapids’ Cory Byrum took with win with 5 bass weighing 21.33 lbs.

BUNN -- Any 12-13 year-old-boy interested in joining the Bunn Prep Babe Ruth Baseball Team should attend tryouts this coming weekend at Bunn High School.
Times will be Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon and Sunday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Attendance both days is mandatory.

STRETCH RUN FOR LHS.  Senior veteran Dusty Ayscue and the Louisburg Warriors are in the mix for the top spot in the Northern Carolina Conference baseball standings. Louisburg hosted Northwest Halifax on Tuesday and will return to the diamond Friday evening with a home meeting with the Warren County Eagles. Ayscue has signed to continue his career at Wingate University.

Amedisys’ new service
Amedisys Home Health Care of Franklinton, a part of Amedisys, Inc., a home health care and hospice services company, has announced that it is providing personal emergency response system (PERS) for its home care patients.
The PERS devices will be provided free for Amedisys patients.

County jobless rate dips; mirrors a statewide trend
Franklin County’s labor force grew, but the ranks of the unemployed shrunk — giving it a rate under double digits for the first time in months.
Franklin County joined a trend with 84 other counties which saw their unemployment numbers fall in February — the most recent figures held by the state Department of Commerce, Labor and Economic Analysis Division (formerly the N.C. Employment Security Commission).

Man with local ties faces kidnap, assault charges
A grand jury returned true bills of indictment against a man investigators allege kidnapped and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend before leading deputies on a four-day manhunt.
Franklin County authorities charged Ryan McBain Brown, 35, with first-degree rape, felony assault inflicting serious injury, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a stolen firearm, and misdemeanors of assault on a female and false imprisonment.

Then, Franklinton officials will determine if the company can move forward with its plans to bring in a business that will bring 15 jobs and as many as 200 over the next 10 years.

Lawsuit alleges pollution contamination
A Franklin County woman filed a lawsuit this month, alleging a Cary company contaminated her property with seeping underground storage tanks.
In a complaint filed on April 3, Gracie Oakley said the pollutants have made her well unusable, diminished her property value and cost her money to provide alternate sources of water at the Long Mill Road residence.

Arts council plans critique workshop
Following a successful first workshop, the Franklin County Arts Council is sponsoring an Art Critique Workshop on April 26 from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. featuring Everett Adelman,  a well-known artist and art critic. The workshop will be held at the Mitchell Media Center, 102 Dogwood Drive in Louisburg.
He critiques two- and three-dimensional art, so all types of artists are welcome to participate.

In their business and on their farm in Bunn, Jodi and Chad Ray are champions of small farm, sustainable philosophies, including using bio-diesel for trucks and tractors and powering a significant portion of their farm with solar power.
Those efforts and many more were recognized at the White House on Thursday when the family was honored as Champions of Change.
