Sea creatures come ‘alive’ at LC faculty event
Louisburg College recently hosted a Faculty Day of Scholarship.
On this particular day, many visitors from other colleges were invited to participate and attend the many sessions being offered on what a college can do to retain students in order to get their diplomas.
Outside of the guest speakers, over 130 faculty members were present, and members of the faculty and administration were presenters.

The host Lady Knights delivered four goals in the first 15 minutes and went on to defeat Louisburg by a 9-1 margin at the NNHS Soccer Complex.

BUNN -- Louisburg and Bunn took a walk on the wild side before the host Wildcats were able to secure a victory in a key Northern Carolina Conference baseball event Tuesday night on the BHS campus.
After a walk-filled first few innings, BHS took the lead, only to see the Warriors rally to tie the score with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth stanza.

After a one-year hiatus, the Louisburg Easter Baseball Tournament will be returning this spring -- but with a few changes.
In the past, the event has been held at Frazier Field on the Louisburg College campus.

Monday, BHS took on league foe Corinth Holders in a showdown with plenty of implications for the Class 2-A State Playoffs.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College’s postseason accolades continued with the naming of three players to the All-Region X women’s basketball squad.
LC went 31-2 this past campaign, winning the Region X regular season and tournament championships en route to finishing third at the NJCAA National Tournament.

Small grain growers plan referendum
The North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association (NCSGGA) has announced that an Assessment Referendum will be held April 10.
Polling places will be located throughout the state in each county extension office. This assessment is for a six-year period for all Canola/rapeseed grown in the state.

Schools seek $1.9 million more in local funds
In the next few weeks, the Franklin County commissioners will receive a request for increased funding of about $1.9 million for schools next year.
The request is about evenly split between operating funds, $967,355, and capital outlay, $928,103.
If approved, the district’s local operating appropriation would be $12,967,355 and its capital outlay appropriation would be $1,853,103.

The death toll in Kentucky rose to two dozen as a result of the March 2 tornadoes that ripped through the South and Midwest.

Water fight now in hands of judge
After a 16-month dispute, Franklinton and Franklin County attorneys had their day in court last week.
Neither side knows exactly if or when they’ll have to do it again.
Attorneys presented Judge Paul Gessner with about 10,000 pages of discovery and a few thousand pages of depositions — each trying to convince the Wake County judge to see their side in a water dispute that has cost more than $200,000 in attorney fees so far.

The combination of a very mild winter, regular rainfall, and gradually lengthening day length is leading to more mosquito activity.
We need to take mosquitoes seriously as they can transmit three different diseases in North Carolina:  West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, and La Cross encephalitis.
