LOUISBURG -- Few volleyball pre-seasons at Louisburg High School have started with as much roster uncertainty as the Lady Warriors are facing this August.
Because of the tradition of excellence within the program, LHS usually just reloads with talent after suffering graduation losses.
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Regardless of how Tuesday’s play turned out, the Bunn All-Stars had already made an impressive statement at the Dixie Youth Coach-Pitch Region 1 Baseball Tournament at McLeod Park.
Bunn, coached by Larry McKeithan, went 2-1 through three games at the 16-team, double-elimination event.

FRANKLINTON -- Not since the Crystal Barnes Era in the early portion of the 2000s have expectations been this high surrounding the Franklinton High School volleyball program.
Not only is FHS moving into a new campus -- complete with a sparkling gymnasium -- but the Lady Rams should be fielding their most competitive squad since then.
Daniel Finn was recently named the Athletic Director at Southeast Raleigh High School -- adding to the list of Wake County ADs with Franklin County connections.
Finn is a Franklinton High School graduate who served as a quarterback for some of the Red Rams’ top all-time gridiron squads.

HENDERSON -- Mike Rotolo has earned one of the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed upon a North Carolina high school coach.
Rotolo, the long-time hoops skipper at Southern Vance, has been tabbed as the East Boys Basketball Head Coach for the annual East-West All-Star Game.
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. -- Steffan Wilson hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to snap a scoreless game, leading the Huntsville Stars to a 1-0 victory over the Carolina Mudcats at Joe Davis Stadium on Sunday night in a Class AA Southern League diamond showdown.
YOUNGSVILLE -- The Triangle Tar Heels Middle School Girls Basketball Elite Team recently competed in the Southeast Regional High School Division Showcase.
The event was held July 30-31 in Aiken, S.C.
The Tar Heels went 1-1 playing a series of exhibition games.
RALEIGH -- The ‘Els for Autism Golf Challenge,’ the largest charity-driven national golf series in the United States, will stage one of its 30 Super Regional events August 22 at TPC Wakefield Plantation, which is located on Falls of the Neuse Road in North Raleigh.

Prosecutors have completed an investigation into allegations that former sheriff Pat Green stole about $100,000 from an undercover drug fund.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL - Selema Joyner Oxnevad, 86, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Palm Beach Gardens Hospice. A graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg will be planned at a later time.
Sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who vandalized a car and painted it with gang graffiti.
The driver is a family member of a convicted murderer and known gang member.
Alice Yarborough reported on July 25 that she was driving from Henderson to her home in the Franklinton area when she got a flat tire the morning before.
Vance-Granville Community College held its annual reception to recognize loyal employees who had retired from the college -- and particularly the eight who had retired in the last twelve months -- on July 26 in the Civic Center on the college’s main campus.

Franklin County commissioners are expected to review an appraisal on Monday night that suggests they would need to spend more than $4 million to buy Franklinton’s water and sewer system.
Franklinton and Franklin County have been embroiled in a dispute since the town shut off water service to the county in September because of drought conditions.

A Louisburg woman charged with embezzlement avoided jail time by paying restitution and getting words of approval from the insurance company she stole from.
Judy Allen also received favor from Superior Court Judge Lucy Inman, who agreed to accept the plea and remit some court fees after hearing of the spiral that led Allen to steal money and tread on the trust of insurance customers.

Last year, Franklinton tinkered with the date it celebrated National Night Out, hoping for a bigger turnout.
This year, they’re back to the traditional date — the first Tuesday in August.
Louisburg organizers never fiddled with the date and will host activities this coming Tuesday at Riverbend Park, between 6 and 8 p.m. But they said the spirit of the event is not just for one night a year.
Franklin Regional Medical Center and its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service has been nationally accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The three-year, gold seal of accreditation is only awarded to facilities that represent the highest level of patient safety and diagnostic image quality, hospital officials said.

A group looking to bring another recreation opportunity to Franklin County will be seeking help from county commissioners on Monday night.
In June, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board agreed by unanimous decision to recommend that county commissioners use $145,000 in designated funds to build a ball field for children with special needs.

FRANKLINTON — One set of changes down. One more to go.
Earlier this month, the town’s board of commissioners agreed to make two changes to how it operates in an attempt to maximize service with a dwindling work force.
The first change was to create a voice mail system for Town Hall, moving customers through a computerized system to get them the help they needed without tying up employees.
