Tim Sexton (W, 3-5) fanned 10 over six innings, but benefited from two breaks in the fourth to earn the victory.

Commissioners, the school system and Vance-Granville Community College have held an ongoing discussion for months about how to best address space issues at the Louisburg campus — which is being exacerbated by the influx of students through the Early College Program.

Anthony Warren Holden, 37, was charged Saturday afternoon with driving while impaired and reckless driving after crashing his car through the back of the Star Mart on Sledge Road.

Bunn town commissioners have joined the Internet gaming fray, placing a 90-day moratorium on any such proposals while they study the issue.
During the board’s meeting on Monday night, a majority of the board agreed to hold off on reviewing any petitions to allow Internet Sweepstakes Cafe type operations in town.

Franklinton celebration honors long-time employee
FRANKLINTON — Not much has gone on in town the last 32 years that Raymond Bragg didn’t know about.
Well, not until last weekend, when friends, residents and officials held a Community Celebration event with Bragg as the guest of honor.
Nearly 200 people filled the American Legion Hut on Saturday, expressing their appreciation for Bragg’s decades-long service to the town.

Franklinton High’s Burkett named UNCG iSchool Scholar
Franklinton High’s Burkett named UNCG iSchool Scholar
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) has announced that 179 high school seniors from 44 counties have been named UNCG iSchool Scholars for their outstanding performance in online early college classes.
Among those honored is Crystal Burkett of Franklinton High School. She will receive a special silver and gold honor cord to wear at graduation and a certificate of merit from the University.

Franklin Regional auxiliary names scholarship winners
Franklin Regional Medical Center’s volunteer auxiliary recently named its 2010 scholarship winners.
Three of the five scholarships were presented to hospital employees in an effort to help them further their education.  This year’s recipients include: Tiffany Alston, Matthew Glenn, Tayla Ricks, Deidre Taborn and Gerri Taylor.

Louisburg College ROTC signs transfer agreement with NC State ROTC program
A transfer agreement between the ROTC programs at North Carolina State University and Louisburg College was recently signed.
The purpose of the agreement is to provide a basis for cross-enrollment of students from LC into the N.C. State Army Senior Reserve Officers Training Corps (SROTC) Program for four-year degree completion at one of the colleges at N.C. State.
