Animal Control and its director were granted extra time to respond to a lawsuit that alleges their negligence killed a household pet.
Attorneys for Jessica Ruiz filed a lawsuit on March 21, claiming that failures to follow procedure and protocol led to the death of their five-month old labrador-pit bull mix named Rocky.

Above, Hertford residents Lois Cole and Frank Drees came to Franklin County and the Norris Creek Outdoor Entertainment Complex on Friday to get a look at some tractors. Specifically, Drees was looking for a hard-to-find part for his Avery tractor. The Antique Farm Show will continue through Sunday out on Old Halifax Road in southern Franklin County. Money raised from the event will benefit the Boy Scouts and American Heritage Girls.

County, Franklinton to meet over water contract issues
Franklin County and Franklinton officials, staffs and attorneys have agreed to meet next week, setting down some ground rules expected to provide civility in a contentious matter.
So far, discussions and litigation have not yielded a resolution to a months-old water dispute, but both sides will meet together, then in separate closed sessions this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Franklinton High School.

Resolution supports US 401 improvements
Improvements to U.S. 401 between Royal and Louisburg received the unanimous support of the Franklin County Economic Development Commission this week.
The EDC unanimously passed a resolution urging the North Carolina Department of Transportation to fully fund both Sections C and D of the highway in its next Transportation Improvement Plan.

Clinic recognizes Cover the Uninsured Month
Franklin County’s Volunteers in Medicine opened its doors in 2004, but it’ll be celebrating some firsts this coming Monday in recognition of Cover the Uninsured Month.

Franklinton hashes out capital improvement plan
FRANKLINTON — Town officials and staff hashed out a list of capital improvements for the next 20 years.
The one consensus is that it will take money — something that’s in limited supply with a Capital “L”.

The vintage truck was on display at the Youngsville Fireman’s Festival, held April 9, as part of a fund-raising project. The fire department wants to restore the truck and are seeking money to help. Deputies investigate theft at A&M Storage
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Franklinton man who tried to wrongly evict a couple from their home.
Wayne Jones was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing police; giving a false report to an officer, and stalking.
According to a report by Dep. J. Maloney, he was called out by Franklinton Sgt. Wade Bulloch to speak with Jeffrey L. Witherspoon at his 678 Winston Street address.

The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) Division of Principals and Administrators named Linda Gail Piper Frederickson, director of Elementary Education and Title I for Franklin County Schools, as the NCAE Central Office Administrator of the Year for 2011.

GOOD MORNING: Although the weather has been a bit on the cool side for the past couple of mornings, dropping into the low 40’s around daybreak out my way, they’ve rebounded nicely, climbing to the lower 80’s by noontime.
Temperatures today (Saturday) look to be a tad warmer with something like a 90 percent chance of thundershowers. And it looks like it will be Tuesday before we see temperatures in the 80’s once again.

NJHS Runs Away
KENLY -- North Johnston has established itself as the team to beat in the Northern Carolina Conference softball standings -- and the Lady Panthers accentuated that fact Wednesday during a home league meeting against Louisburg.
The powerhouse Panthers scored 10 runs in each of the first two frames en rout to posting a 20-0 decision over Louisburg.
The event was called after Louisburg’s team at-bat in the top of the third stanza.

LHS Drops A Close One
KENLY -- Louisburg High School entered Wednesday’s road girls soccer contest at North Johnston with a short-handed roster -- and it got even shorter as the match progressed.
With only 11 players available, there was no margin for error for the Lady Warriors. But in the second half, a roster member succumbed to a serious headache, meaning LHS had to go the rest of the way with just 10 performers.

Mudcats dropped at Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. -- A five-run first inning staked the Huntsville Stars to a lead, and then they held off the Carolina Mudcats 6-5 to claim their home opener on Wednesday night at Joe Davis Stadium in a Class AA Southern League baseball contest.
