BENJAMIN A. GENTRY


OXFORD - Benjamin Autry Gentry, 70, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009. A memorial service was conducted Friday, March 13, in the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan chapel, with the Rev. Pat Hawkins and the Rev. John Yount officiating.

He was the son of the late Maynard and Elizabeth Adcock Gentry. Following high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Banking became his profession of 34 years. After retirement, he became the founder of Union Bank and Trust and served on its board.

Surviving: wife, Betty Lou Wilkerson Gentry; children, Ben Gentry of Oxford, Glenda Bragg (Martin) of Franklinton, Jill Bettenhausen (Mike) of Arlington, Va.; sister, Betsy Greenway of Camden, S.C.; brother, Ferrell Gentry of Austin, Tex.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Terry Gentry, and one sister, Emily Marie Gentry.
