RALEIGH - Ellen Stevens Layton, 77, died Friday, July 21, 2006 at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit in Winston-Salem. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 24, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Raleigh. Burial followed at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

She was born in Raleigh. Mrs. Layton was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Layton, and a sister, Doris Stevens Denning Foster.

Surviving: sons, Richard F. Layton (Beth) of Lewisville and Timothy C. Layton (Jalenn) of Youngsville; brothers, A.G. Stevens of Cary and Ronnie I. Stevens (Nancy) of Cary; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the American Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice of Forsyth County.
