RALEIGH - George Henry Cates, 69, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. Services will be today (Wednesday, Feb. 17), at 11 a.m. at Williford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry King and the Rev. Allen Mason officiating.  The family will receive friends one our before the service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Granville County to the late Roy and Alice Wilson Cates Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Roy Cates Jr., Phyllis Pope and David Cates.

Surviving: wife, Linda Sears Cates; sons, Randy H. Cates (Melissa), Chris G. Cates; sisters, Betty Wilkins of Oxford and Marie Gooch (Ed) of Durham, Brenda Hart (Steve) of Oxford; brothers, Bill Cates (Revonda) of Franklinton and John Cates of Fuquay-Varina; and one granddaughter.
