ZEBULON - Joseph Arnold Overton, 85, died Thursday night, Aug. 31, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg, with the Rev. Norris Cook and the Rev. Earl Roach officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites.

Mr. Overton was a son of the late Robert and Cora Dickerson Overton and a native of Vance County. He was a Navy veteran and a member of John H. Mills Lodge #624.

Surviving: his wife, Alice Martin Overton; daughters, Judy Overton of Oxford, Nancy O. Owens of Bullock; stepdaughter, Casandra Brooks of Livingston, Tex.; sons, Robert “Bobby” L. Overton of Winterville, Jerry A. Overton of Henderson; stepson, Ebbie “Trey” Martin III of Zebulon; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one step great grandchild.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight (Saturday, Sept. 2) at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St., Louisburg, and other times at the home.
