HENDERSON - Thomas Brantley “Tommy” Welch, 95, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 9) at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rusty Edwards and the Rev. Robert Beamon. A private burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg.

Born in Warren County, he was the son of the late John Calvin Welch and Elizabeth Martin Tharrington Welch. He graduated from John Graham High School in Warrenton and attended North Carolina State University. A veteran of the U. S. Army Air Forces, he served during World War II as a qualified buck sergeant. He worked for Motor Sales Company for 22 years. In 1970, he helped design the syllabus for classrooms for the Vance County Technical School, now Vance-Granville Community College. He was an instructor in mechanics for many years, retiring in 1980.

Surviving: wife, Mildred Matthews “Millie” Welch.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mabel W. Coker, Lizzie W. Ayscue, Louise W. Hilburn, Annie Lee W. Hardee, and Sue W. Myrick; and a brother, John T. Welch.

The family will receive friends at the home, 127 White Oak Drive.
