FRANKLINTON—Murtha Richardson Young, 97, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, at Hawkins Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. W. S. Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was born in Granville County to the late Walter and Laura Richardson. She was educated in the Granville County School System. She was a member of Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and Sunday School secretary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roosevelt Young; a daughter, Nadine Marie Hawkins; a great-grandson; and a great-great-grandson.

Surviving: daughters, Louise V. Thorpe of Franklinton and Lorraine (Percy) Tolbert and their son of Alexandria, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
