Gertie was the daughter of the late Charlie Fisher Stone and Sallie Hayes Stone. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifton C. Reames and Andrew L. Ayscue; son-in-law, Cooper Ayscue; sisters, Rachel Taylor, Alma Gaskill, Martha Vaughan and Fannie Jane Stone; and brother, Ransom Stone.
Gertie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Ann Ayscue, Sr.; daughter, Betty R. Ayscue, all of Louisburg; 3 grandchildren, Kim Graber (Tom) of Blythewood, SC, Connie Lancaster of Raleigh, and Andrew Ayscue, Jr. (Angie) of Youngsville; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sadie Burnette, Nellie Freeman of Louisburg; brothers, Dr. Raymond Stone (Rachel) of Kittrell, Dr. Paul Stone of Fuquay-Varina and Jack Stone of Louisburg.
Gertie chose nursing as a career and was a licensed practical nurse. She began working at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson and also Franklin Regional in Louisburg. In later years she was a private duty nurse in both homes and hospitals. Her life as a nurse was an angel of mercy.
For numerous years, she served as a Chaplain and on the Board of Directors of her nursing group.
Gertie was a member of the Louisburg Baptist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class and of the Fannie Heck Missionary Circle.
She loved to cook and have family and friends to enjoy a meal and spend the night.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Louisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Reggie Rushing officiating. A private burial will follow. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549.
The family received friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at Strickland Funeral Home and all other times at the home of Betty Ayscue, 21 Stones Way, Louisburg.
