CHARLIE D. GRIFFIN


DALLAS, TEX. - Charlie Drake Griffin, 65, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Charlton Methodist Hospital following an extended illness.  He was born on Sept. 8, 1948, in Louisburg. He attended Louisburg High School.  Following high school in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 20 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring.

During his military career, Charlie received the Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor with Four Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Five Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the Meritorious Service Medal, among others. After his Air Force retirement, Charlie worked for Defense Contractors as a Program Manager.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Drake Griffin; his step-father and mother, Paul and Lois Hensley, and a sister, Paula Jo Hensley.

Surviving: wife of 25 years, Pam, and three children, Timothy and Joanna Velasquez and Charlie D. Griffin, Jr.; a sister, Anne G. Harrington of Broadway, NC, and a brother, H. Bunnie Griffin of Macon, GA.

Services and interment will be on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11:30 a.m. at Dallas—Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Great Dane Society of North Texas.
