LOUISBURG - Willie David Strickland, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at Wake Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Rock Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Melton Tyson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

He was born to the late Howard Augustus and Willie Chamblee Strickland.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Maynard Strickland, and his sister, Virginia Strickland.  He served in the US Army during WWII.

Surviving: one sister, Betty Strickland Perry of Raleigh; one niece and two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
