W. DORSETT FINCH


YOUNGSVILLE - William Dorsett Finch, 85, of Youngsville, passed away Friday morning March 21, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Franklin County to the late George Henry Finch and Nannie Mae Pergerson Finch.

Mr. Finch was a veteran of the National Guard and was a former 2nd Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol. He was the former owner/operator of Finch’s Garage & Used Cars and later owned/operated The Friendly Shoe Store in Franklinton for 18 years. His two great passions, other than family and friends, were flying his plane and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, brother & grandfather and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, March 23, 2014 at Pope’s Chapel United Church of Christ. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Finch is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Perry Finch; children, William Clark Finch of Youngsville, Margaret Gail Ray of Youngsville, Judy Finch Todd & husband Gary of Summerfield, and Timothy Walter Finch & wife Sheila of Youngsville; sisters, Nan Eubanks & husband Bob of Raeford and Frances F. Vassar & husband Rev. Gary Vassar of Louisburg; brothers, John Finch & wife Rose of  Wake Forest, Gerald Finch & wife Barbara of Louisburg, and Joe Finch & wife Lois of Louisburg; grandchildren, Candice Ray Keefer & husband John of Youngsville, Jacob Ray & fiancé Sarah Field of Franklinton, Sara Todd of Summerfield, Alena Todd of Summerfield, and Tyler Finch of Youngsville; great-grandson, Daemion Ray of Franklinton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Finch, Jr. and James Finch.
