LOUISBURG - Lynn Adair Williams, 89, died Sunday, April 20th at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A native of the Justice Community, he was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Mary Jane Stallings Williams, and a brother, Robert. Long-time readers of The Franklin Times will remember him as an avid writer of Letters to the Editor.

Prior to his service during World War II, he attended East Carolina Teachers College in Greenville, NC. During World War II, he served in the 188th Parachute Infantry, 11th Airborne in Luzon, Philippines and Okinawa, and, at the end of the War, was stationed in Sendai, Honshu, Japan as a part of the Allied occupying force. He attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts prior to returning to active duty from September, 1948 until September, 1949 to serve as a Military Escort for the reburial of World War II dead.

Returning home, he enrolled in North Carolina State College, where he participated in ROTC while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering. After completing College, he attended Officers’ Training, received his Commission and served with the U.S. Army Infantry in Korea from August, 1952 until May, 1954.

Following his military service, he applied his Textile Engineering Degree while working for J. P. Stevens and other textile manufacturers. He retired after 20 years of service with First Citizens’ Bank in Raleigh.

Lynn is survived by a sister, Julia Bess Williams of Butner; a son, Jonathan (Linda) Williams of Nashville, NC; daughter, Elizabeth Adair Werner, and step-daughter, Jane Best of Louisburg; granddaughter, Christina Williams of Nashville; sister-in-law, Jeanne Williams of Wake Forest; niece, Cherry Medlin of Raleigh; nephew, Robert Eugene Williams of Atlanta, GA; and numerous cousins.

A life-long member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church, he loved his family, cigars, music, politics, history, NC State sports, and his home in Justice. He will be missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Franklin Oaks and Community Home Care and Hospice for their kindness and compassion at the end.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Duke Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Duke Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice or several of Lynn’s favorite charities, The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Southern Environmental Law Center, and The National Wildlife Fund.
