LOUISBURG – James Everette Horton, 77, of Louisburg, died Friday morning at his home.

He was known by many as J.E. or “J.” He was the son of the late Sam and Flossie Tant Horton. J.E. was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie J. Horton, and son, Sammy Horton, and his sister, Yvonne Horton.

A funeral service was held 4 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Spring Baptist Church. The family received friends immediately following the service. A private burial was at Ransdell Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

J.E. is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Elsie Horton; daughter, Janet Kimbrough of Louisburg; son, Bruce Babbitt of Davis; grandchildren, Scott Kimbrough and wife, Carie; Jason Kimbrough and wife, Leca; Jeannie Owens and husband, Joey; Cindy Johnson; Tommy Hill and wife, Lorie; Warren Hill; 8 great-grandchildren; aunt, Estelle Young of Louisburg; many cousins; former daughter-in-law, Nancy Babbitt of Beaufort.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Spring Baptist Church, Building Fund, 89 Brantleytown Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597.
