WILSON - Billie Ray “Big Dawg” Herring, 63, died Monday, May 19, 2014. Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, at L. N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle in Wilson, with the Rev. William Neal officiating. Interment followed in Maple Wood Cemetery in Wilson.

He was born in Faison, N. C., the son of the late Billie Sunday Herring and Judy Marie Herring He attended Douglass High School in Duplin County and furthered his education at Livingston College in Salisbury, studying business management and music. He was co-owner of King and Darden Funeral Home and later began his own company, Burnadom Marketing.

Surviving: wife, Iris Herring of the home; son, Nakia Herring of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughters, Burgundi Herring of Raleigh and Domanique Herring of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Judy Marie Herring of Wilson; sister, Judy Phelps of Wilson; brothers, Terry Herring (Elaine) of Charlotte and Jerry Herring (Deborah) of Greenville; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
