FRANKLINTON - Walter M. Mitchell, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at Covington House in Raleigh. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 5, from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel, 504 E. Mason Street, with graveside services to follow at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton with the Rev. John Hill officiating.

He was born on to the late John Walter and Julia Ann Murray Mitchell. He had been a member of the American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton.

Surviving: wife Margaret Gibbs Mitchell; son, Bill Mitchell (Dona) of Garner; daughter, Patricia Ann Jordan (Richard) of Franklinton; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612.

Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg.
