LOUISBURG - James Hurley "Jimmy" Edwards, Jr.,70, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 after the Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ, called him to his eternal home. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James H. Edwards, Sr., and his two brothers, Ricky and Ray Edwards. He is survived by his mother, Cora Katie Edwards; his beloved wife of 44 years, Debbie Nash Edwards; one son, James H. "Jay" Edwards, III of Miami, FL; one daughter, Tiffany E. Patterson (Erick) of Louisburg; and one granddaughter, Hilary Patterson.

Jimmy was a graduate of Louisburg College and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Jimmy was the owner of White Funeral Home in Louisburg, now Strickland Funeral Home, for over 30 years. As a funeral director, he felt most honored to reinter General Robert E. Lee's daughter.

Jimmy lived his life to the fullest in amazing ways: flying planes, riding motorcycles, playing cards, shooting pool with the best, driving a 1970 Superbird, sport fishing, coaching the River Rats Softball Team, performing music with the Carolina Footwarmers, being a music DJ, shag dancing and hosting a radio talk show.

He loved Louisburg and the community, being a past Governor of the Moose Lodge, member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Confederate Heritage Society and the Breakfast Club.

Jimmy had many, many wonderful friends, an amazing memory, pure will power, an optimistic nature, generous heart and could tell the best jokes and stories. He knew the Lord well and inspired his family in faith. Jimmy was a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home, White Memorial Chapel. Burial was private.
