CASTALIA - Troy Ollie "T.O." Nelms, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at his home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

He was born in Franklin County to the late George Allen and Mary Elizabeth Collins Nelms. He was a retired farmer who loved hard work, especially working with his cattle. He cared for his community in many ways - growing and delivering vegetables to neighbors, scraping driveways for the elderly during a snow storm, lending a hand to help fellow farmers get their crops in before frost, and if anyone had a need and he couldn't help, he would find someone who could. He taught us the importance of family, faith, hard work and service to others.

Surviving: his wife, Catherine S. Nelms; daughters Linda (Donnie) Aycock, Roxanne (Bill) McCormac, Wendy (David) Fox; sons Steve (Diane) Nelms; Michael (Katherine) Nelms, Keith (Betsy) Nelms; sister, Carlette Adams of Knightdale; brother, Delton (Nancy) Nelms; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, T.O. was preceded in death by his stepmother, Hettie Davis Nelms; sister, Veryl Wood; and brothers, Melvin, Clemon, Ensley and Lloyd Nelms.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Rock First Baptist Church, 4879 NC Hwy. 56 E., Castalia, NC 27816.
