ALICE W. SMITH


HENDERSON-Alice Woodlief Smith, 88, a former resident of South Garnett Street, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Whitmore Retirement Center in Oxford. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Rose Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Henderson, with the Rev. Terry Huffines officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. A private entombment will be held at Sunset Gardens.

She was born in Kittrell, the daughter of the late Thomas Cornelius Woodlief and Beulah Moore Woodlief, and was the widow of Thomas Harrison Smith Sr. She graduated from Zebulon B. Vance High School, and earned an Associates Degree in Business from Louisburg College. She worked at J.C. Penney, Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc., as Assistant Clerk of Court, and at the Henderson Daily Dispatch.

Surviving: one daughter, Alison Smith Overton (Lindsay) of Raleigh; one son, Thomas Harrison Smith Jr. (Elizabeth) of Holden Beach; one brother, Milton Woodlief of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Missions Fund, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536.
