ALTON KENDALL BETTS


SUGAR HILL, N.H. -- Alton Kendall Betts of Sugar Hill, N. H., died Aug.16, 2016 after a brief illness. A service celebrating his life will be held in June of 2017 in New Hampshire. For further details please go to: info@horncamp.org.

He was born Sept. 24, 1947 in Woodbury, N.J., to Joseph Kendall Betts and Eva Wilder Betts. Mr. Bett's grand parents, William and Lillian Wilder, were natives of Franklin County and his mother was raised in Franklin County.

He was recognized as a French Horn prodigy at an early age. He graduated H.S. from Interlochen Arts Academy in 1965 and earned degrees from The Curtis Institute of Music and University of Pennsylvania in 1969.

He has performed with the Pittsburgh Smyphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, N.Y. Philharmonic, and others. In 1979, he was appointed Principal Horn of the Minnesota Orchestra. Kendall held that position until 2004.

Surviving: his daughter, Lucy, and two cousins.
