CASTALIA - Gregory D. Avent, 68, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Durham. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Castalia Baptist Church, Castalia. Burial will follow at 8181 Inscoe Road, Castalia.

Surviving: wife, Joan Harris Avent of Castalia; son, Rickey Avent of Glen Burnie, Md.; sisters, Glennie Moyd and Carolyn Avent, both of Baltimore, Md., and Hilda Johnson of Castalia; brothers, Joseph Bell, Ulysses Avent Jr., Michael Avent, Horace Avent and Kennedy, all of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.
