ATLANTA, GA--Kay Wheless Woodward, 62, beloved wife, mother, friend and neighbor, died suddenly at her home in Atlanta on January 17, 2018. The many who loved Kay will always remember her for being attentive to the needs of others and gracious to all.

Kay was born January 25, 1955 in Louisburg, North Carolina, to Dr. Thomas O. and Lois Brown Wheless. Lois was a community leader and Thomas was a small town doctor and furniture craftsman. After attending prep school at Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, Kay attended Hollins College, graduating in 1977. She continued to cherish her Hollins' friendships and relationships with alumnae. After college, Kay moved to Washington, DC, holding several positions in the Reagan administration, including Special Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Cabinet Affairs at the White House.

In 1986, Kay married Frederick White (Rick) Woodward, III, at historic Christ Church Episcopal in Alexandria, Virginia. Rick and Kay moved to Atlanta in 1993, with their baby daughter Eleanor, then welcomed their son Harris the next year. In addition to raising Eleanor and Harris, Kay worked as a representative for Portrait Brokers of America and most recently as Sales Consultant for Unified AV Systems. Kay loved flowers, gracious homes, and cooking for others. She excelled as a hostess, cook and gift-giver.

Kay was dearly loved by her husband, Rick, her daughter, Eleanor, and her son, Harris Woodward of Atlanta. Her death is mourned by her brother, Thomas O. Wheless Jr., his wife Cheryl and their children, Michael, Jonathan and Erin (Eagle, Idaho); Rick's sisters, Quinn Woodward (Holly Hill, Florida) and Harriet Woodward Burton and her husband, Don (Charlotte) and their children, Haley Lahmeyer (Charlotte) and Louise Copeland (New York City); and her dog, Daisy. She will be greatly missed by friends at All Saint's Episcopal, her neighbors on Brookhaven Lane, the Brookhaven Garden Club, and Eleanor's enduring "play group."

A memorial service will be held on January 22nd at eleven o'clock at All Saint's Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta.
