DANBURY, CT--The life of Nancy Carol Carr Lounsbury was sparked in Lumberton, NC, where she arrived, June 17, 1955, as the daughter of Julia Fuller Carr and Franklin Fulton Carr. She was valedictorian for the Class of 1973 at Franklinton High School and moved to Winston-Salem where she continued to shine at Wake Forest University (BS, 1977 and MA, 1980). Her thesis investigated the Ramsey Theory and its applications in Combinatorics and Graph Theory, a branch of Mathematics, the Queen of the Sciences. As an undergraduate she met her future husband, Erik, and formed a circle of lifelong friends who cherished her quick mind and generous heart.

In 1979 Nancy began her career at Amp Inc. in Winston-Salem. She then moved on to RJR Tobacco Co. but took advantage of the "Barbarians at the Gate" buyout. She, Erik and the cats set out for northern pastures in Danbury, CT, where she enjoyed performing IT programming magic for 30 years at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. Friends and colleagues remember her as a fiercely independent, free-spirited, super smart and strong woman.

Nancy created home space with remarkable flair wherever she lived and was known as a gracious host of many Thanksgivings, dinner parties, and "brink of the decade" celebrations. Throughout her life she had a great love for animals and their plight.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Erik, with whom she loved to travel and explore the arts and sciences of living, whether looking at birds in their backyard or tracking Celtic crosses in Ireland. Nancy was the muse and frequent subject of Erik's beautiful photography. She is also survived by sister Janet Carr Burnette; niece Mrs. Adriane Burnette Holloway (Jason); great-niece Anna Holloway and great-nephew Jackson Holloway, all of Franklinton, NC.

Nancy lost a sudden, vicious struggle with small cell lung cancer on March 10, 2018, but she remains in the hearts of the many whose lives she touched.

Graveside services will be held April 7 at 4 p.m. at God's Acre, Home Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, Nancy wished for donations to be given to the CT Humane Society or the Forsyth Humane Society.
