Born in Franklin County to the late Ervin and Ida Lucille Burnette Best, Tommy was also preceded in death by two sisters, Diane Rice and Sandra Lumbert. He graduated from Edward Best High School in 1968, where he was an outstanding athlete, and was retired from Tony Lumber Company in Louisburg.

Tommy loved the outdoors and was an expert fisherman. He never met a stranger and was always generous to friends and acquaintances in need.

Tommy is survived by a daughter, Sarah Best of Greenville; a son, Chris Best of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Meredith Roberson; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date
