ROGER H. KORNEGAY

ROGER H. KORNEGAY

YOUNGSVILLE -- Roger Hamilton Kornegay deceased; January 2, 2019. Roger was the much anticipated first born son of Roger Alton and Julia Holt Kornegay of Louisburg. He was born at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. on August 18, 1948. Roger attended public school in Louisburg and was graduated from Louisburg High School in 1966, a place where he had made many life-long friends. He joined the United States Air force shortly after graduation and became a certified jet engine mechanic and crew chief of a KC/135 flying fuel station in the skies over Vietnam during that conflict. He chose to work in heavy industry.

After a 25-year career with Kaiser Aluminum in Oxnard, California, Roger retired and returned to North Carolina. Here he met and established a home in Youngsville with Ms. Leigh Senter. Early in their domestic life together, they lost a much beloved adult daughter of Ms. Senter's, Rachael. Rachael's hope and optimism enriched Roger and Leigh's life together as a family with daughter Molly. Roger developed many close ties in his working life through his memberships in the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union, the United Steelworker's Union and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Roger loved his extended family, Jesus, the wisdom found in the King James Bible, motorcycles, fishing and entertaining guests.

Roger is survived by Leigh Senter; grandsons, Luis and Steven Bravo of the home; brothers, John A. and wife Renee Kornegay and Julian Holt Kornegay, all of Franklin County; stepdaughter, Molly Moore, husband Carlos and grandchildren Anthony, Daniel and Rachel of Granville County; nephews, Cory, wife Brooke and son Julius Kornegay of Watauga County, Chance and wife Nikki Kornegay of Pitt County.

He was predeceased by his parents and nephew, Cutler Kornegay, who is survived by Cheryl Riley and children Cai and Gabriel Kornegay.

Roger never knew a stranger, always recognized good hearts, looked for the good in everyone and loved God and Country.

Funeral Service provided by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, Oakwood Cemetery, Louisburg, NC, Saturday, January 5, 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Flowers much appreciated as they were greatly cherished by Roger.
