SHIRLEY ANNE BUNN FLETCHER

SHIRLEY ANNE BUNN FLETCHER

WOODBURY, NJ--Shirley Anne Bunn Fletcher, 85, Woodbury, NJ, went to her heavenly home on January 3, 2021, due to complication of Coronavirus. Born in Justice, NC on December 23, 1935, she was the daughter of Rufus Bunn and Helen Adair Mitchell Bunn, who preceded her in death. Shirley was born into a family of farmers and she learned about hard work in the tobacco fields her family worked. She took that hard work and determination with her to Louisburg College and North Carolina State University where she was one of the first women to graduate in 1958 with a degree in Chemistry. Shirley moved north, met and married John William Fletcher (deceased) in June of 1958, and started a family. Shirley taught Chemistry and Biochemistry at Deptford Township High School in Deptford, NJ until she retired after 33 years of teaching. Teaching was her passion. She truly enjoyed having a positive influence on the minds of young people and helping them with their futures. She left a legacy of many scientists, lawyers and doctors of which she was extremely proud. She developed many life-long friendships with her students and the faculty with which she taught and she cherished each of them.

After her retirement from education, Shirley worked for 15 years at Barnes and Noble in Deptford, NJ to support her love of reading. It was rare to see her without a book in her hand. Currently, Shirley resided at the Woodbury Mews, Woodbury, NJ where she had many friends. She was an Ambassador for the Mews and helped new residents feel comfortable with their new surroundings. She was also responsible for the organization and upkeep of their community Library. Shirley was a member of Barnsboro Baptist Church in Barnsboro, New Jersey, where she was active in Vacation Bible School, Women's Bible Study and maintaining the Church Library.

Shirley loved to read, travel, and spend time with her family. Her friends were very dear to her and she made new friends wherever she went. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

She is survived by a sister, Nettie Jean (Bunn) Williams of Tarboro, NC; a brother, Tommie (Wyvette) Bunn of Spring Hope, NC; a son, Richard Francis (Carolyn) Fletcher of Cherry Hill, NJ; a daughter, Patricia Fletcher (Duane) Beidel of Chambersburg, PA; loving grandchildren: Kelly and Richie Fletcher, Jennifer Beidel Horton, Emilee Beidel Little, Casey Lynn Beidel; great-grandchildren Hadley Anne Little, Lucas Little and Everett Horton; and nieces and nephews Tammy Bunn, Tonya (Bunn) White and Mitch Bunn.

Shirley will be cremated and interred at a later date with her family at her childhood home church at Duke Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Justice, NC
