At Christmas, he loved taking candy to children of his friends and family and was dedicated in sending humorous birthday cards to family and friends. He was devoted to his family. Old cowboy movies on television were his favorite shows. He had a long bout with cancer and withstood years of procedures and treatments to the end. From 2 Timothy, Verse 6 & 7, "For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith."

His friends and family were very good to Gerald - mowing his grass, putting light bulbs in ceiling light fixtures, getting him a cell phone, fixing his television and telephone when they didn't work, taking him to ride, stopping by to check on him, coming by for visits, and taking him out to eat. These friends are Tom Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Randy Kearney, Linwood Edwards, Donald "Duck" Edwards, Jonathan Renn and others.
