LOUISBURG, NC-- Evelyn Marie Smith Pernell, age 87, died September 1, 2021. Born March 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Wiley Smith and Lucy Tharrington Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Green Pernell, sisters, Margie Billings and Mildred Roberson, and brothers, James W. Smith, Jr. and Donald Ray Smith. She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

Marie is survived by her four children; Ann Wilson (Shelton), Joseph "Joey" Pernell (Chris), Sherry P. Nevils (Ralph), and Midge P. Hood (Chris), and seven grandchildren; brother Michael Smith (Cherry) and sister Avis Mae Smith Pernell.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 4, at 3 p.m. at the Murray-Pernell Family Cemetery.
