GARLAND E. MUSTIAN

GARLAND E. MUSTIAN

LOUISBURG, NC -- Garland E. Mustian, 92, of Louisburg, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born in Warren County on June 3, 1929, son of the late Clyde Mustian, Sr. and Lucy (Bobbit) Mustian. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Anne, his siblings Walter; Dennis; Clyde, Jr; Forrest; Ruth; Mary Thomas; and Lillian Shearin.

Garland is survived by his daughter, Lyne Thompson (David); his sister, Joyce Inabinett; his special friend, Martha Miller; as well as several nephews.

Garland served in the National Guard and worked as a real estate appraiser. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished artist. While he was good at a lot of things, he was a really, really, bad driver, which he claimed was a carefully crafted plan that allowed him to be chauffeured whenever he went anywhere with anyone.

Garland was a patient man who, when Lyne was 4 years old, pretended to be asleep while she painted his face with oil paints and shaved off one of his eyebrows. Lyne suspects he wasn't just pretending to be asleep, which is why she got away with it.

He enjoyed teaching Lyne new vocabulary words, which led to Lyne earnestly explaining to her third-grade teacher that "lackadaisical" meant a shortage of flowers.

Despite his insistence to not "make a fuss" and just "dig a hole in the backyard and roll him in it," graveside service for Garland will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg with visitation directly following.

In lieu of flowers, and at the risk of being lackadaisical, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Oaks Activities Fund or the SPCA of Franklin County.

Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services. Online condolences may be made to www.lancasterfcs.com.
