LOUISBURG, NC -- Conrad Boyd Sturges, Jr. was born on June 10, 1939, and died on June 3, 2022 at his home in Louisburg, NC. However, he was called Buzzy or Buzz. Although he was an Army brat and lived all over, he always considered Louisburg his actual and spiritual home.

His father, Colonel Conrad B. Sturges (BG bvt) was from Henderson, NC and his mother, Louise Terrell Allen Sturges, was from Louisburg, NC. Buzz dreamed of being an Army officer like his father. Unfortunately, the Army doesn't accept men deaf in one ear. Thus, he was probably the only man in his generation who wanted to enlist and couldn't get in the Army to do so. Instead, he graduated from UNC Chapel Hill University and its Law School. Then he started practicing law in Statesville, NC, before realizing his dream of moving back to Louisburg, where he started practicing law with Lumpkin, Lumpkin, & Davis. In 1969, he and Charles Davis formed the firm of Davis & Sturges. Pete Tomlinson later joined the firm, which is now known as Davis, Sturges, & Tomlinson. Later, his son Boyd joined the firm and continues to practice law there.

Everyone agrees the best thing Buzz ever did was go on a blind date in 1966 where he met and subsequently convinced Harriette Horsey of Atlanta, GA to marry him. Buzz and Harriette were married for over 55 years. They had a strong marriage supporting each other while they raised two sons and even moved (temporarily, of course) to Washington, DC where the now Rev. Harriette Sturges served a church there. He was very proud of his sons, Boyd and Richard and was delighted when they both followed his good sense when it came to getting married. He loved and was loved by both Boyd's wife, Cindy and Richard's wife, Heidi. As fond as he was of his sons and daughters-in-law, everyone knew his granddaughter, Olivia, was especially special to him. Once when she was little, and in a production of the Nutcracker, her ballet company needed an extra man to fill in. Olivia convinced Buzz to give up his golf game for 4 months to rehearse and perform in the show. There is no one else on the planet Earth who could have convinced him to do this.

He loved golf, surf fishing at Hatteras Island, good parties, reading, and all things dealing with the weather. It is assumed the Weather Channel was created for just him, and before that, he would happily spend hours listening to his National Weather Service weather radio.

He is survived by his wife, Harriette Horsey Sturges of the home, his sons Conrad Boyd Sturges, III (wife Cindy); Richard Horsey Sturges, (wife, Heidi); granddaughter Venice Olivia Sturges; Timothy Neal; his sister Lula Sturges Cheatham, sisters-in-law Eleanor Ridley and Augusta Nash, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
