Mary Hudson Turner (Snooks)
YOUNGSVILLE, NC--Mary Hudson Turner (Snooks), 85, of Youngsville, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at her home. She was born September 30, 1937, in Youngsville, the daughter of the late Joe Willie and Myrtha Davis Hudson. Her husband, Eugene Grissom "E.G." Turner, Jr., also preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Larry Turner and wife Teresa of Youngsville and Randy Turner and wife Karen of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Jeff Martin (Whitney), Bobby Martin (Meredith), Brandon Turner and Carrie Turner; great-grandchildren, Jackson Martin, Mason Martin, Addie Martin, and Aubrey Martin. She is also survived by her beloved brother Ben Hudson of Youngsville. She was preceded in death by her brothers J.W. Hudson, Jr. and Delmas Hudson, sister Ethel Hudson Winston all of Wake Forest, NC, and Ava Hudson Edwards of Bladenboro, NC. Mary loved her family, especially her grandkids, nieces, and nephews. All were welcome at her house for meals, and she treated her children's friends like they were hers. Mary was a lifelong member of Oak Level Christian Church, where she served on numerous committees and offices. She was known for cooking fresh vegetables from E.G.'s garden for church meals, including her favorite corn pudding. Mary had a passion for basketball. She once scored 50 points in a game at Youngsville High School. She picked the sport back up in her mid-fifties and played into her late seventies. Mary loved traveling across the state and country, playing in the Senior Games with the Fabulous Fifties, winning the National Championship in 1999. She was so excited when the documentary about her team, "Granny's Got Game," was produced and shown at multiple film festivals. Mary enjoyed a 30-year career with the North Carolina State Government before retiring to spend time with her grandkids, church, and basketball family. A funeral service was held Monday, December 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Oak Level Christian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Monday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Oak Level Christian Church's Deacon's Fund (oaklevelchurch.net) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
